Last Day of Class

I had a lot of fun in this class.
I can't believe how much I don't know about technology.
I especially enjoyed working on my class site. There is much more that I want to add to it, I'm sure it will be never ending.
I also will have my students create their own blogs and have them comment on their classmate's posts.
I appreciated the opportunities to work with others from my district and beyond.
Overall, it was a great experience.

Hippocampus

I enjoyed exploring everything that HIPPOCAMPUS has to offer, especially since I went through training to teach with UCCP online classes.

For my class, I would use the "California Gold" lesson. It may be difficult for some of my ESL students, but I think the more advanced students could do it. They all will enjoy watching the video, even as I did. The students can also read the text.

I liked the explore activities also for the discussion ideas it gave.
The lesson tied in our local history as well as the Civil War and racial discrimination. My students will get a lot out of this lesson.

Thinkfinity

I think this site is wonderful, although a bit overwhelming.
Because I want my students to study American biographies, I printed out a story about Jim Thorpe. I felt this was appropriate because the Olympics have just ended.
Then, I downloaded the audio file so that my students can listen to the story while they are reading it. They can listen as many times as they want.
Finally, I printed out the exercises that go along with the story.
I think this will make an effective lesson, and one that will be a springboard to class discussions.

Google Reader

These are some of the ways I will use Google Reader in the classroom:
Give students a list of subjects and they search for articles on those subjects
Have students check out subjects they are interested in and then subscribe to those sites
Do a research assignment using Google Reader to find information
Students could put Google Reader on their phones.

Second Day of Class

How do I use or want to use technology in my classroom?

I have four different ESL online classes. I comment on and correct student's writing in the course. I also observe and record grades, and communicate through internal messaging.

I also coordinate CyberHigh, an online high school program, for our ASE students. I monitor students' progress, approve their courses and final exams, and nag them to get their work done.

I would love to make videos for my ESL students, so I hope I learn a lot today.
